After making aliyah from Pittsburgh, Jake Gillis set out to understand Israeli society not just through headlines, but through its music, television, humor, and everyday cultural expressions.

What began as a personal exploration became Sababoosh—a platform dedicated to decoding Israeli culture for global audiences.

Through the Sababooshpodcast and live programs, Jake helps communities engage with Israel in a way that is textured, human, and accessible.
His talks examine topics such as Israeli music in times of crisis, society through television, and the cultural forces shaping Israeli identity.
Jake holds an MA in Jewish Education from JTS and was trained in experiential education at Pardes.

His work has been featured in major publications including the Jerusalem Post, Ynet, and Jewish Link.

At the centreof his work is a focus on music —not as entertainment, but as a window into Israeli society.

Through songs, rhythms, and stories, he creates entry points into Israel that resonate across diverse audiences.
